ReverbNation

I have just discovered a new social networking site: ReverbNation. The New York based site will launch on October 31 and looks well interesting.ReverbNation concentrates on connecting music fans, artists and if I have got it right venues, too. At first glance it might remind some people of MySpace music sites but it is far richer in detail. Artists have their own site which features the usual stuff: some general info like bios can be added, photos, show listings, comments made by users of the site, listing of fans, the band’s own favourite artists on the site and a blog. Nothing special you might say. True so far.Though additionally there is a fan management tool called FanReach. Artists can import their existing fan lists from Outlook, new fans on ReverbNation are added automatically. Also filters can be applied to the fan list. So for example they can send mails to fans who live in a certain geography, are girls and of a certain age. Later they can track the results. All those functions work within ReverbNation.
Music fans can listen to songs and create playlists. They can even download songs, watch videos and read lyrics if the artists have included those features on their page.
Both artists and fans can put widgets on their sites, blogs or MySpace pages so that upcoming gigs are shown, etc. The widget functionality will be extended over the next few weeks or months I hope.
I really like the concept of ReverbNation. It is strictly based around music and doesn’t branch out into other territories. At the moment I am just missing fan groups or groups in general like on Last FM.
It will be interesting to see how ReverbNation develops, especially as it competes with MySpace. All the best to the site owners. Thumbs up from here.
