Appropriate ways to use Google

No, this article is not about the latest Google hacks. It is about the correct use of the word Google in our daily usage. Well, at least according to the Official Google Blog and Google’s lawyers. Especially you should not use the verb Google in combination with a competitor’s search engine.

It is amusing, admittedly. And Steve Rubel even wants to say “I googled from Yahoo”. ;) On the other hand I can see why they want to protect their brand name. They give some examples in the blog article. It also reminds me of the discussion about Sony and Walkman a zillion years ago.

However, is there really anybody out there saying “I googled this and that” when they were using Yahoo!, MSN or any other search engine out there? I don’t know. It just seems strange to me.
