At the end of each year search engines present the top searches of the year. Last night it was Yahoo’s turn.
Those lists make me wonder sometimes. The worldwide (US driven, though) top searches are dominated by celebrities: Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan,… What is so interesting about them that people search for them? Each time you consult a doctor or go to the barber you can read about them in magazines lying about there. And still people search for them.
Should the Democrats have a look at the top ten politicians searches? Hillary Clinton is on number four, though there are more people still searching for her husband. Number three. And what about the Democrats’ shooting star Barack Obama? Well, number eight right after John Kerry. The Democrats should strive to change some rankings until the elections, I think.
And what are my fellow countrymen searching for? That’s strange as well. Looking at the list I was reminded of some German portal sites like GMX: weather, erotic, chat, games, web,… Just single words. What are people expecting to find when typing “web” into the search bar?
