Sonar Circle – Unreleased 96-06 [TrebleO]

Sonar CircleI just didn’t believe my eyes when I read that Sonar Circle was releasing drum and bass tunes again. And here they are: two brand new tunes and five older ones.

If you are not familiar with the name Sonar Circle it is no one else than Domu, the master of broken beats you know from releases on 2000 Black, Archive and many more. Sonar Circle is the drum and bass project by him (originally together with partner Jaimie Norman) which basically lasted from around 1996 through 2003. With a few exceptions all tunes were released on the mighty Reinforced Records.
In 1996 Reinforced started building up new artists like Alpha Omega (aka Nubian Mindz), G-Force and Sonar Circle. After various 12″ all three artists were releasing albums in 1999. Those albums were refreshing and innovative at the time as they incorporated other styles than drum and bass and were working as real albums rather than a succession of various 12″ which was standard back then. Sonar Circle’s Radius album already showed hints at Domu’s musical direction.

Oblivion is the first new tune of this release. It is more floor friendly than earlier tunes but still far away from mediocre, soulless crap. The second new tune Dark Nights is in Sonar Circle tradition. The older tracks don’t stand back.

These tracks are released on Domu’s and Shiftee’s own netaudio label TrebleO. According to the website the older tunes will only be available for a limited time. So get this release for just £3 (320 kbps).
