Four Free Releases for the Weekend
13. January 2007 – 07:11 byThe weekend is here already and maybe you will have some spare time to download some netaudio releases and discover new artists and sounds.
First there is Canadian producer Muhr on Italian netlabel Zymogen. Well, maybe this not the perfect release to start this weekend’s musical journey. The ten tracks, only two longer ones, though, are very experimental, droning, minimal, creating a dark atmosphere.
It is very demanding music and you probably have to listen to it very closely. Though it is worth your attention.
Next is a very good compilation on German label Aerotone which recently released the wonderful Cantaloup album. Electronica Unplugged features ten tracks ranging from Ambient to more Folk orientated tracks. As the title of the compilation already suggests only few electronic sounds are featured here. Very relaxing and perfectly contrasting the Muhr release. Never thought I liked a completely acoustic release.
This release is much different from the previous ones. Funk Sinatra has released a new album called Jahlander which covers everything from Dub to straight, dubby Techno. While dubby Techno is often associated with Basic Channel this assumption would be completely wrong here. All tracks are rather raw, in-your-face, and not very subtle. I guess Mr. Sinatra had a lot of fun producing those tracks. On German netlabel Musicartistry.
Admittedly I have not listened to every single release on Ukrainian label Nexsound yet but I think this album by Italian producer Bluermutt adds a new dimension to Nexsound’s approach of abstract and experimental music. The eleven tracks of When I’m Not are experimental as well (you don’t expect straight bangers on Nexsound, do you), but seem to have their roots rather in Post Rock than in electronic music. Highly recommended.
