Spam is a Nightmare

24. January 2007 – 19:07 by Carsten Pötter

I really hate spam. It steals my time, I am offended, and it is disgusting to see. A couple of months ago I thought I had won. Hardly any email spam anymore. Well, maybe every other week one or two emails distributed over various accounts.

But then I started blogging. Wow, there are still many people who try to sell the magic blue pill or want to lure me to some very obscure sex sites. Blog comments and trackbacks are the spammers’ new weapons it seems. I didn’t know before.

Until today it wasn’t a problem visitors to the blog could see with their own eyes. Spam detecting plugins solved the problem. Though today nine comments got through and they have remained on the blog for about 13 hours. Unfortunately I don’t have access to this blog from work, so I was able to delete them just a few minutes ago.

It makes me angry. I have Akismet and Simple Trackback Validation running on this blog. Obviously I need some more tools. Or any other tools? Which anti-spam plugins are you running on your Wordpress powered blog? Any other ways than plugins to fight spam? Leave a comment.
