Today both Microsoft and the OpenID community, namely JanRain, VeriSign, and Sxip announced to collaborate on making OpenID and Windows CardSpace interoperable.
This is probably a very significant step forward for OpenID as one of the big players in the internet and computer business acknowledges its growing importance in internet identity building. It is encouraging to read phrases like this:
Microsoft recognizes the growth of the OpenID community and believes OpenID plays a significant role in the Internet identity infrastructure. Kim Cameron, Chief Architect of Identity at Microsoft, will work with the OpenID community on authentication and anti-phishing.
JanRain and Sxip will add support for Information Cards in return.
Admittedly I never thought Microsoft would really co-operate with a project like OpenID but rather try to push its own products and solutions and make it a quasi-standard.
