Terrence Dixon - Sabbatical EP [Diggarama 014]

Terrence DixonA new day, a new netlabel. At least for me. Diggarama is a fairly new Croatian label which had its first release in May 2006. So far mostly Croatian artists have been featured on the label covering all kinds of electronic music. At least that is the impression I have got from reading their website.

However this time it is a four track EP by Terrence Dixon, a producer from Detroit many will know from his releases on such well-known labels like Tresor and Metroplex. And the music? Well, what do you expect from someone who titled his releases Minimalism, Minimalism II, and Minimalism III?

Yes, it’s minimal techno, of course. Repetitive, analogue, old skool, Detroit. The first track - Marathon - is probably the most repetitive of the four tracks, also sounding rather dull and muddy. Though I am not sure if it’s the music itself or more the production and mixdown.
Anyway, the other three tracks are more interesting, offering variation by adding a synth line here and there, even some claps like on Cycling. The EP ends with Untitled which sounds almost euphoric compared to Marathon. Maybe showing progression thoughout the tracks is even the concept of the EP? I don’t know.

The EP is worth downloading if you are into minimal US techno. All tracks are 192 kbps except Untitled which is 128 kbps. Strange. The EP has been released yesterday, so maybe the Diggarama folks have not noticed it yet.

I like the sort of counter rotating rhythms in “cycling” :)

I guess I know what you mean. Though I had to listen repeatedly to the EP to really get into it. Really good EP.
