Related or Unrelated Discussion?

When I had a look at my blog statistics today yesterday I noticed some referrers from Megite. Well, I wondered which of my blog posts caught the attention of the Megite crawler and I was suprised to say the least. It is the review of Lijit which is linked as a related item to a story by Brad Feld on the Venture Capitalist network provided by FeedBurner.

At first this didn’t make sense and seemed to be a major flaw by Megite’s algorithm because I have never written about VC, certainly not in the Lijit review. So I had a look at Brad Feld’s article and suddenly things made more sense. He mentions Lijit’s partnership with FeedBurner. Lijit provides its search engine to FeedBurner’s publisher-organised networks which the VC network is part of.

I am still not sure if my review is really related to the discussion on a VC network but it’s certainly interesting to see which twists the algorithm takes. Now I just wish StatCounter counted page loads from Megite. ;) I only noticed those referrers with the Semmelstatz WordPress plugin.

  2. Carsten, Thanks for your writing and reporting about Megite. The algorithm is smart, but it may be over smart:)

  3. Haha, yes. I actually like that all meme trackers work differently. Each one shows another picture of what’s happening in the blogosphere.
