Google Boosting Feed Subscriber Numbers

17. February 2007 – 13:42 by Carsten Pötter

Yesterday FeedBurner announced that Google was reporting numbers of feed subscribers to them now. The total numbers include subscribers using Google Personalized Homepage and Google Reader.

So now you can see the numbers on the Feed Readers and Aggregators listing in FeedBurner as Google Feedfetcher. Well, Google Feedfetcher numbers were listed there before but according to FeedBurner they should be more accurate now. Of course, that’s good to know as many bloggers seem to be statistics freaks.

However I am not sure if those numbers are really true. I mean the number of subscribers to the feed of this blog has increased from 33 yesterday to 51 today, mainly due to Google. Google Feedfetcher numbers changed from two subscribers yesterday to 16 today.

Anyone else noticed such changes? I am curious how this affects numbers of big blogs like TechCrunch as Google Reader has increased its market share recently (see Hitwise data for US internet visits reported in January).
