OpenID Explained

I have mentioned OpenID quite often on the blog recently. Though I think I probably haven’t really explained how it really works. At least people who are not familiar with OpenID could still be in the dark a little bit. And they are not to blame. Here are two videos featuring two highly respected people of the OpenID community explaining it much better than my miserable words ever could.

The first video is a screencast by Simon Willison who – among other cool things – built idproxy.net which allows users to use their Yahoo account to create an OpenID. Simon explains everything from getting an OpenID to signing up to various websites with it.

The second video is a presentation on OpenID by Scott Kveton of JanRain, myopenid.com, and Jyte. Scott did a presentation at Ignite in Seattle earlier this month. Don’t be confused at one point or another, the concept of Ignite is that each presenter has just five minutes, 20 slides, and 15 seconds for each slide.

Enjoy the videos!
