Rene Hamel - Kittelschuerze EP [Insectorama 004]
23. March 2007 – 00:03 by
I have mentioned it somewhere else on the blog already but just as a reminder: there are too many netlabels around. It has become impossible to keep track of new releases amd unfortunately I miss good labels and artists, too. That’s distressing.
Insectorama is one of the labels I should have been aware of right from the start. It was founded by Markus Masuhr in October 2006. Masuhr has released numerous excellent releases on various labels throughout the last couple of years, just check his discography. Consequentially he is running his own label now.
Rene Hamel has been unknown to me so far. So I can’t say if this is his first release. Anyway, on this EP there are three original tracks by him and a remix of Unnamed by Markus Masuhr.
Rooted in Minimal Techno the four tracks avoid typical pitfalls of the genre. They are approaching minimal music from a different angle; more slamming and rocking, not as sophisticated as one might expect. They are also very upfront and dark, though always tricky enough to avoid being labeled as mere dancefloor fodder.
Great music on this EP and an artist and label to watch in the future.
