German OpenID Provider Launched

29. March 2007 – 22:21 by Carsten Pötter

meinguter.nameOn Tuesday Solution Media launched MeinGuter.name, an OpenID provider. It’s the second German OpenID provider I am aware of; the other one is Regged which is a rather private project, though (see explanation on Agenturblog).

However MeinGuter.name - which can be translated as My Reputation - is a lot more than just a provider; it also helps building meaningful online identities. The concept is similar to claimID, though MeinGuter.name is regularly crawling the web for links that it thinks are by you or about you; those links can be added to your profile, of course. However it’s not possible to add links manually. Maybe that’s planned for later implementation. Personal information like timezone and date of birth can be added to profiles as well.

Personal homepages look like this:

MeinGuter.name is a great effort with even more potential by Thomas Huhn and Solution Media who seem to become a little German OpenID empire (also running OpenID Directory and OpenID Blog Germany).
