MyBlogLog Introduces Tagging
May 25, 2007 in Web, Yahoo by Carsten Pötter
Last night social networking site MyBlogLog has launched tagging as a new feature to its service.
Now users can tag other MyBlogLog (MBL) users as well as communities (blogs). As one can probably expect tags are displayed in a tag cloud. If you don’t know what a tag cloud is about, just have a look at the screenshot below or at the bottom of the left sidebar of this blog; there you will see another example. Users can also see who has tagged them or their MBL community by hovering over a tag. However you can delete any unwelcome tag from your profile page; you can also decide to opt-out of tagging at all.
Tags are old news in the social driven web, though for the first time they allow to discover blogs that deal with similar topics on MBL; the same applies for users. So far there hasn’t been an easy and convenient way to find related blogs. There are also some special tags like schmoe which indicates spam and means Social Media Optimizer (hilarious!), Hot Member which means, erm, Hot Member.
While tagging is not the super cool new feature – though a useful one -, it is the first in a series of more features and updates of MBL.

Disqus Improves User Experience of OpenID

Sometimes the results of OpenID logins look a little bit strange, certainly not as expected by users. Blog comments are a good example. Usually I would expect my real name or username displayed there but occasionally it looks like this:
The provider simply didn’t send my name (Google in this case).
While some providers allow personas, i.e. [...] -

Great Customer Service for a Foolish Guy
October 29, 2009 in General
This blog post is a little bit different from the not so relevant open web centric stuff you usually find here. However I think it’s a good story about great customer service. So why not share it with you, although I play the stupid part in this story?

Microformateers: Quick Microformats Support
October 25, 2009 in Microformats
Microformats are really cool. Small snippets of code that semantically describe various information included in any published text on the web. It’s not visible information for end-users but rather metadata that can be crawled and parsed by search engines or extracted by other means, like browser add-ons.
While microformats are rather simple – even I understand [...]
