Wiki hosting service Wetpaint has announced OpenID support for its service today. Now everyone with an OpenID can start editing any of the 400,000 wikis hosted by Wetpaint.
As far as I know Wetpaint is the only wiki hoster that supports OpenID at the moment. Of course, there is Schtuff, JanRain’s wiki service, though it was sold to PBwiki in March; transferring Schtuff wikis to PBwiki should be finished by now, by the way. When acquiring Schtuff PBwiki announced that it will support OpenID as well. I am confident this will happen soon as JanRain is helping out.
Joining wikis and OpenID makes a lot of sense because any dedicated user can contribute to several wikis without logging in with their user names and passwords. It lowers the barrier for users to start editing entries because they don’t have to go through another registration process just because they want to update an article. Maybe there will be even more people using wikis in the long run. OK, that might be wishful thinking but I like dreaming.
