Sputtr: Central Spot for Search
June 9, 2007 in Web by Carsten Pötter
Browsing John Battelle’s blog this morning I have discovered Sputtr, a simple but straightforward site which works as a central stop to search all major search engines, news services, and other social media and bookmarking services.
You may think of meta search engines like Dogpile that search multiple search engines at once. Though Sputtr always searches just one search engine or social bookmarking site; currently there are 36 to choose from. So you don’t have to go to each site anymore if you want to perform a search there. Also there are seven localised versions of Sputtr available; e.g. the German version is featuring Mister Wong instead of Blinklist.
Although Sputtr has a blog, there is no information who is behind it; there are also no Terms of Service and privacy statements. I think that should be mandatory. Nevertheless it is a very useful site that could always be open in a tab of my browser.
