WordPress Category Feeds and FeedBurner
12. June 2007 – 23:10 byA few days ago David Recordon asked if he could get a RSS feed for my blog posts tagged with OpenID to add to planet.openid.net. I happily agreed though it turned out I had trouble providing a category feed.
Usually WordPress automatically generates category feeds in the form: www.example.com/category/yourcategory/feed. I use FeedBurner and unfortunately, those category feeds were redirected back to the main FeedBurner feed. I was searching Google for two evenings, tried several plugins but did not succeed; I even considered leaving FeedBurner.
Eventually I have found the solution in the depths of the WordPress support forums. All I had to do was updating the Permalink Redirect plugin. It couldn’t be easier. Lucky me.

Hi Carston. Couple questions: 1) Did you uninstall the Permalink Redirect plugin completely or deactivate it, then update then plugin? 2) What options did you have to configure in the Permalink Redirect plugin to get your category feeds working properly (assuming you updated the plugin)?
Thanks.

Jason, I uninstalled the old version completely, then installed the new one (0.7.0); 0.8.0 is out since a couple of days, btw. The only option I have activated is the link to my FeedBurner feed. Originally I checked Hostname Redirect as well but that was a dumb decison by me because my OpenID didn’t work anymore (see here).

I’m trying to get redirects going from my Wordpress category feeds to their corresponding Feedburner versions; I’m not clear on whether you used this plugin to do that. Can you help?

As far as I can see I have no redirects of my category feeds to FeedBurner. Though if you check the Hostname Redirect box as well all your feeds will redirect to FeedBurner.
