Short News

wevent The guys of German online event manager Wevent are constantly improving their great application. Thanks to the magic of microformats users can import their friends from Twitter, Last.fm, and Qype now. Twitter worked great for me while import from Last.fm didn’t work. I might be wrong but it seems like the friends page on Last.fm is not completely marked up with microformats. I didn’t try Qype. Importing friends via microformats is really cool, though I wish the link to this feature was visible somewhere. I just know the link from the Wevent blog.
Other improvements include exporting events via iCal and a WordPress plugin. Wevent is becoming a strong competitor to Upcoming. Check it out, especially if you’re German.

OpenID Login Boxes: Alper has started a lively discussion on user friendly login boxes for OpenID over at Four Starters. Relying Parties should provide a login box where users just had to choose some well known Identity Providers (IdP) like AOL and LiveJournal from a dropdown menu and type in their username, so they won’t have to remember the full URI of their OpenID; British Ex.plode.us already provides a similar feature. While a login box won’t explain OpenID to newbies it could help them logging in because rather often they don’t know that they already have an OpenID. Combining this box with other ways of information like a little tutorial or links to IdP’s was probably a really good start to introducing newbies to OpenID.

  • Hey Carsten,

the link to the import function is also available below your friends list in the sidebar :)

You are right: The hCard implementation on the last.fm friends page is wrong, not every friend has an hCard...

    Have a nice weekend,
    Dennis

P.S.: Tomoorow we'll be updating the site again - this update includes photo upload, which we think is a great feature because not everyone has got a flickr account.

Oops, I am old, I am blind. But you know that by now, I guess. ;)
  • ...and not to forget, the fantastic operator user script :)

Yes, great job on the Operator script for Wevent, Mr Pfefferle. :)
