While listening to Naked Raygun’s classic Jettison on my computer’s system this very moment, the album got several rewinds on my living room’s stereo this weekend. Poor neighbors!
Jettison was Naked Raygun’s third full lenght album, released in 1988 on Homestead Records. It’s still available through Quarterstick Records, that has re-released it in 1999 with bonus tracks.
The Chicago based band was rather controversial at the time. They didn’t play by punk and hardcore rules, especially lyrically. People often accused them of being machos and even being conservatives. Well, that’s not really true, I think.
Anyway, the album features loud punk rock with great sing alongs, melodic hook lines, excellent guitar work by John Haggerty and the distinct and aggressive vocals by Jeff Pezzati. Maybe it is best described as a mixture of British punk (hey, there is even a Stiff Little Fingers cover song, Suspect Device), some hardcore, and alternative rock. The music should definitely appeal to people into Hüsker Dü and similar bands. Just hits!
