The internet is a great place. Someone has an idea, writes about it, then emails, forum posts, blog articles, comments,… are exchanged, and before you know, a new project is born. Some of those projects are never finalized, though, some better hadn’t been started in the first place, and some are surprisingly great, unique, breath taking, and definitely worth the effort of all people involved. I guess, you know projects of all three categories yourself.
One example of the latter category is certainly the Subvert Central 60×60 project. Initiated by Jason oS back in Summer of 2007, 60×60 features 60 tracks, all 60 seconds long. The featured artists (actually not 60) are members of the Subvert Central forum which is the refuge of all leftfield Drum ‘n Bass addicts. Some of them are well-known figures in the scene (Macc, Fanu, Cycom,…), some hide under new aliases, and some are lesser known producers.
Though don’t expect just Drum ‘n Bass on the 60 minutes long journey, there is hardly any. Instead you will hear guitars, ambient and more experimental sounds.
The tracks are compiled deliberately and it is an enjoyable journey throughout multiple genres. I definitely want to hear more of it. Highly recommended.
Update: I guess, I should mention that the download is free of charge. The file is available as 320kbps MP3 and as lossless FLAC.
