Good Old Days

Well, sort of. Thanks to Last.fm I reminisced about the good old days of hardcore punk this week. Mostly 80s stuff actually. The similar artists stations provide an excellent service to listen to great music.

And much to my surprise there were some real gems to rediscover: US bands like SSD, Reagan Youth, Black Flag, JFA, Dead Kennedys, Die Kreuzen, and Articles of Faith but also European favourites like Negazione, Raw Power, Subhumans, and Lärm. Often the sound quality of those recordings was far away from excellent, but the energy and sheer enthusiasm of the bands easily made up for that.

Fortunately many of those old recordings are still available. Fans who missed some of the recordings (or were just too young when those bands were around) can get the music for rather cheap prices these days. Often whole discographies are released on one or two CDs so fans don’t have to pay ridiculous collector prices for wornout records.

This music will always have a special place in my heart.
