It's also possible with Bloglines and I guess with other ones as well. I have to think about Disqus a little bit more. Not everything's positive about it. I also use the NewsGator shared feed option as well but like you I wish these shared feed aggregators didn't think that Google was the only option here. Now I have talked with both Adam from ReadBurner and Benjiman from RSSmeme and both acknowlegde this as a short coming that each project is looking at trying to rectify this - so we'll see what happens. This enables you to "compose" what are sort of like iTunes playlists of items from various RSS feeds. It works a lot like iTunes. You just subscribe to the feeds you’re interested in, then drag and drop the news items you like into a new feed of your own. You can republish that as a new RSS feed, or easily send the new list to others via an html email newsletter. Sorry if that seems like spam, it just seems relevant to what you're writing about.
